Scavenger Hunt Rules
These are the rules that we used for our scavenger hunts for several years.PHILOSOPHY
This is designed to be a game of logic, resourcefulness, and creativity. As such, NO additional information will be given about the items on the list. The number of points that an item is worth is based upon the judges' guesstimation of how difficult it will be to find such an object. The list is designed to have WAY more items than any one team could possibly get in an afternoon, with a wide range of points/difficulties. Be advised that the creators of the list *are* wicked and devious.
RULES
Anything not expressly prohibited or illegal is ok.A list of the items to be found and their point values can be picked up at any time between 3:00 and 6:00 PM. Try to come a bit early so we can register names, collect money, and pair up singles. (You may pay money/register name/request a pairing in advance.)
A team must have at least two people and a name, and may use no more than one car. Publicly available transportation (e.g. train, bus, taxi) is fully legal.
Nothing from my house, yard, or garage is admissable as an item.
Items can be turned in any time before 6 PM. You may make as many check-in trips as you like. Items turned in after 6 PM receive 0 points.
NOTE: This year the rule that photos of objects are as good as the object is NO LONGER IN FORCE.
The list is designed such that we will not expect any team to retrieve all the items. Be advised that the people who created the list are wicked and devious.
No using car/cellular phones.
For each item on the list, the first team to turn in a 100% compliant article gets a 20% bonus.
NOTE: In the past, there have been "knowledge" items that other teams overheard and thus could get credit for. Duh, be sly about it! If you figure out that you have to rub your stomach to get points for #37, walk up holding a watermelon and say, "Here's #37" while stretching and rubbing your stomach gently. The judges will be watching for stomach-rubbing and ignore the watermelon.
Partial credit is liberally allowed. Be creative. NOTE: Partial credit will not be given quite as liberally as in the past.
A representative from each team will have to tell a story about something that happened during the day.
The judges' decisions are very arbitrary and final. Judges will give NO help. Judges will only rule on an item's worthiness when presented with an item; no hypotheticals.
PRIZES
There will be a $2 entry fee, and all the entry money will be divided equally among the team that has the most points. (Any bonus prizes come out of the house's pockets.)
Each team will have to tell a story about the funniest thing that happened
to them during the day.
